The Akathist to the Theotokos Explained

Our New Series for the Wednesday night Gladsome Light Dialogues is “The Akathist Hymn to the Theotokos Explained”

The Series will focus on the Akathist Hymn to the Mother of God and will cover its origin, structure, theology, liturgical settings, hymnology and iconography. It is our hope that through this in-depth study we will reach a greater understanding, not only of the Hymn itself, but of our relationship with the Theotokos, the Mother of God and ours.
The Dialogues will take place online, on ZOOM, each Wednesday, after the services, at 8:00 PM in order to accommodate the Presanctified Liturgy. The is in our Weekly bulletin.
In order to better understand the discussed topics, please read the Akathist Hymn before the Wednesday dialogues and have a printed or electronic copy handy, for your reference

As the Akathist Hymn is not just a study text, but a prayer, so, you can also use it as part of your morning or evening prayers or Compline service. We also chant the Akathist at the Church, every Friday during Great Lent.

The Dialogues are recorded and, in case you miss a Wednesday, you can find them here
