Baptism and Chrismation Preparation list

Children Baptism

  1. God parent should be previously agreed with the priest. Please do not engage anyone before talking to the priest.  God parents will have to send in advance of the Baptism a letter from their parish priest stating that they are in good standing with the Church and they are eligible to be God parents.
  2. Baby Birth Certificate (send copy to the office ahead of time)
  3. Orthodox Cross (gold or silver) with chain (usually the Godparent buys it) here or here and  here, however you can buy it anywhere you want as long as it is appropriate. If in doubt ask the priest.
  4. Candle (beeswax preferred) – we have them at the Church
  5. BIG white bath towel (to be used by the person receiving the baby after baptism, see  photo)Baptism
  6. One large white oil sheet (used with the towel to wrap the baby) – One Godparent will hold the oil sheet outspread over the Big towel and the priest will place the child into the oil sheet when finished at the baptismal font. The oil sheet protects the Godparent’s clothing and wraps the child. (see photo)
  7. Small white hand towel (to be used by the priest and godparent to wipe their hands after the baptism)
  8. Small bottle with olive oil (to be poured in the water)
  9. A white outfit for the baby  – All clothing should be white.
  10. A bar of soap ( washing of hands)
  11. Lots of joy and patience 🙂

Adult Baptism (for each person):

  1. God parent should be previously agreed with the priest.   2. For the Prayers right before Baptism, wear regular Church clothing, preferably white or off-white. 
  3. Baptismal Clothes. For men: T-Shirt and knee length swim trunks. For women: non see through light, long dress or T-shirt (non see through) and knee length swim trunks. 
  4. After baptism, a white Baptismal robe should be worn over the regular Church Clothing. Contact our Church office if you cannot find one. 
  5. Orthodox Cross (gold or silver) with chain (usually the Godparent buys it) here or here and  here, however you can buy it anywhere you want as long as it is appropriate. If in doubt, ask the priest.
  6. Candle (beeswax preferred) – We have them at the church

  8. Small white hand towel (to be used by the priest and godparent to wipe their hands after the baptism)
  9. Small bottle with olive oil (to be poured in the water)
  10. Clothing underneath the Baptismal robe should be white or off white.
  11. A bar of soap (only one per family for washing of hands)

Adult Chrismation (for each person):

  1. God parent should be previously agreed with the priest. Please do not engage anyone before talking to the priest.  God parents will have to send in advance of the Baptism a letter from their parish priest stating that they are in good standing with the Church and they are eligible to be God parents.
  2. A copy of the baptismal certificate sent to the priest ahead of time (e-mail preferred)
  3. All candidates should be dressed in regular Church clothing, preferably white or off white.  (if not possible then very light colors)
  4. Candle (beeswax preferred) – We have them at the church 
  5. Orthodox Cross (gold or silver) with chain (usually the Godparent buys it) here or here and  here
